The issue with alcohol and breastfeeding is that drunk people aren't reliable caretakers for a baby.

There is no evidence anywhere showing that alcohol in human milk is a problem unless the mother is drinking a LOT. (J Pediatr. 1978 Dec;93(6):965-7 "Pseudo-Cushing syndrome caused by alcohol in breast milk.Binkiewicz A, Robinson MJ, Senior B.") The mother in this case study was drinking 7 cans of beer a day plus additional spirits.

Ruth Little, in Boston was unable to replicate her findings about alcohol use in breastfeeding.

Drunken folks aren't safe to take care of babies. someone drinking prudently won't be drunk.

I like the non alcoholic drink options. I might have to make one for my pregnant self.

While I did indulge in an occasional well timed glass of wine or beer, I also had a good nighttime sleeper early on.

Someone also makes little strips that you can use to test the amount of alcohol in your breast milk before giving it to your baby. I haven't looked into them yet, but saw them at the store the other day and know a mom who has used them.
