Thanks for the info Amelia! It seems like every day there's a new news story, and since the WHO is freaking out, it has to be a big deal, but nothing I've read has said why. It really bugs me. there was a case reported in Israel a couple of days ago, did you hear?

Thanks, Amelia, for spelling it out! I was wondering myself the same thing.
I'll be glad when this whole thing passes.

Sharon, I think it is because no one has any immunity to that particular strain which means that more people than normal would/could die from it if it becomes pandemic. It would be similar to the Spanish Flu than went around in 1918. And the fact that there is not any vaccine for that strain would contribute to more cases of illness.

So, I'm still a little confused... what makes swine flu so much more dangerous than the "regular" flu (which is a misnomer by the way b/c every year there are several strains of the flu virus floating around)? Is it more contagious? More likely to be fatal? Do people realize that thousands of Americans die every year from "flu-related complications"? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how this strain is so much more deadly than any other kind.

On another note, thanks for the links Amanda! My son is home today (Israel's Independence Day) and Friday (Labor Day), so we need some good activities to keep us busy!
