I've always wondered if teachers' homes were overwhelmed with mugs and home-made gifts from the kids. So we've always given gift certificates.
This year I think we've decided on gift cards from our favorite bakery. Mmmmmhhhhh...

My kiddos aren't in school yet, but when I was teaching daycare, my favorite gifts that I received were those that the kids made (or helped their parents make). I still have them! :-) My favorite was a picture frame that two brothers in my class made for me... it was simple... 4x6 frame. They painted puzzle pieces with bright solid colors then glued them around the frame. It was really sweet and personal. Also, another student of mine helped her mom make me a pillow with pillow cases for each season. Just sweet treasures! :-)

My mom and my sister are both teachers so I usually check with them before I purchase something for my children's teachers. They have told me that gift cards, school supplies, and generally things that any person could use are great gifts. They said that items that say teacher on them are cute and all but they get a lot of them and don't really have a place or use for it and they eventually have to get rid of it. My sister loves spa gifts but my mom does not because she won't go to a spa so when she gets them, she has to give them away. They both spend a lot of money on taking pictures of the class for projects and other supplies for their classrooms so this year I decided to give a Christmas platter of cookies, a gift card to Wal-Mart, and a Christmas ornament made by the children with a card made by them as well.

We are going with a Spa gift card from Sam's Club for Spa Finder. You get two $50 gift cards (one now and one for teacher appreciation day in May) for $80 ($40 each). $20 off!! I hope she enjoys it.

We have given a gift card to Starbucks to the teachers at Ewan and Isaac's preschool. Nothing super fancy--and yet, practical. I don't know what we'll do this year. One of Ewan's teachers also works part-time at Starbucks so I don't think she would like that. She does like to knit so I am thinking a gift card for a yarn store will be great!
