I completely agree that you should educate yourself! It's so important to understanding the bigger picture.

I used self-hypnosis with all three of my deliveries and I swear by it. I highly reccomend it to anyone.

On the going to the hospital too early thing: When I was pregnant with my first someone told me, "If you're not sure if it's time or not, then it's not. There will not be any question that it's time to go." I think that is a pretty good rule.

I think we are embarrassed because sometimes birth noises sound sexual and we get shy about making those noises in front of other people. In my classes I try to prepare couples ahead of time that some of the birth noises sound sexual but that it is normal and natural. I doubt that any midwife, doctor or nurse hasn't heard it before.

I have a few birth videos that could be mistaken for some sort of adult movie if someone were listening from the other room and not seeing the tv. Tee-hee.

Great tips, and I especially agree with the second. I went to the hospital way too soon with my first, but knew better with my second.

That yoga/birthing ball was a life saver for me. The contractions only felt REALLY bad when I decided to lay down. Never make that mistake again. Next time I'm birthing on all fours, or squatting!
Also, the "moaning" technique (#4) was super-helpful. I'm not sure why we're so embarrassed by making noise while we're in labor...
