Gasp! A Bumbo recall?!
posted by Amanda on October 26th, 2007
Yesterday the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of Bumbo Baby Sitter seats, because there have been reports of children falling out of them and three children had skull fractures.
Basically, the CPSC is warning parents against the seats being placed on tables and counter tops. Children can arch their backs and flip out of the seat. The recall will put new warning labels on the seats.
I place Ace in her bumbo seat just about every day on our kitchen table while we have dinner. I even fed Ace in her chair on the table for the first time yesterday. I know that as soon as I see Ace arch her back or when she is growing tired of sitting there, I take her out.
As with all baby products, we just need to use common sense.

I agree with you. Brielle loved her seat but as soon as I saw that she get get out and possible fall out it was time to put the seat on the floor. We love her little seat still. We still use it all the time.

I agree too! It’s common sense. We used a bumbo with our son and I’ll use it again if we have more kids. It’s a lifesaver to parents with young children. We just have to monitor them in it; like anything else!

They just recently came out with this product and it wasn’t available when my two were babies. It seems parents are a huge fan of these. Are they really that great?

i’m still in the early bumbo stages. i’m not totally sold on it yet (we were given it as a gift). but eli sure looks cute in it. he arches his back after just 5 minutes in it. maybe when he’s older he’ll like it more. right now he’s about 4 mos.

We have one but Kara does not like it at all. I was hoping that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission was going to refund our money back.
Actually, my two boys like it more. They’ll sit in it and, of course, get stuck. So they walk around with it stuck on their behinds. The first couple of times it was pretty funny.

Connor never really took to it, but we got our money’s worth with Darah! Actually, Darah had hers before they were mainstreamed. Occupational and physical therapists fell in love with bumbos when they first were made because of the awesome support they provide for kids with low tone. We used it for meal times with Darah because her therapists wanted her in perfect posture during meal time and the Bumbo provided that posture support for her. I think the recall is really common sense. Kinda like the warnings on some toys: “Warning: do not stick pieces up nose.” No kidding!
